More about Angelique

Angelique is a curious person, hungry for all life’s experiences. Often described as the one who “wears a few hats”, Angelique firmly believes in diversifying herself. Her career, as a counselling psychologist is built on her foundational interests; connection, movement, mindfulness and development.
As a psychologist, Angelique pulls from various theoretical models, acknowledging that humans are diversely unique. She takes her time to establish a relationship, understand your ongoing concerns and goals. Angelique does not expect one method to fit all, she is creative, flexible and asks you to ‘come as you are’ and to trust the process.
As a holistic wellness enthusiast, Angie strives to cultivate different environments for different therapeutic needs. Some require individual therapy, some require a group setting, and some require a combination of resources. For the latter, Angelique hosts a few wellness retreats across South Africa where she shares some of her teachers: mindfulness, movement, nature and the power of group-work with others.
Angelique also offers corporate mindful movement sessions and debriefing.
Therapeutic approach
Angelique’s primary therapeutic approaches are Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) and mindful based models. Angelique understands that humans are complex beings, and that one mold doesn’t fit all. Angelique offers individual therapy for teens (15+), students and adults. She also offers career assessments and guidance. Angie refers to trusted colleagues for the following: couples therapy, play therapy, addiction, other psychometric testing and forensic reports.
Angelique offers both virtual and in-person therapy and her areas of interest include:
- Anxiety disorders
- Stress and burnout
- Depression/Mood Disorders
- Adjustment/transitional periods
- Relationship difficulties
- Self-esteem difficulties/personal growth
- Acute stress and trauma
As a holistic enthusiast, Angelique believes that it is important to connect and develop all aspects of ourselves, therefore she often pulls from mindfulness models to increase the mind-body connection.

More about CBT
CBT is recognized internationally as effective in treating emotional and behavioral problems including depression (mood disorders) and anxiety disorders such as social anxiety, panic disorder, generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). CBT is a practical and goal-directed therapy to help the client become their own therapist. It is based on the premise that it is not our situation, but how we think about our situation, that determines our emotional well-being.

More about ACT
ACT is a practical and action-orientated therapy that works towards creating a rich and meaningful life, and learning how to accept the pain that comes with it. It is effective for various issues including depression, anxiety, stress, chronic pain, OCD, and eating disorders.
In essence, ACT teaches us to accept unwanted and unpleasant experiences that are out of personal control and to rather focus on the behaviors that we can control. Happiness is understood to be achieved when we commit towards living a valued life and align with our beliefs. ACT thus highlights the importance of psychological flexibility and mindfulness.

About virtual therapy
Online therapy requires a stable internet connection on your side, a working camera for video sessions, as well as a private and comfortable space for you to have the session. As with everything in life, there are pros and cons! Online therapy can support those who travel, have tight schedules, limited spare time, and can reduce travel costs. Online therapy also allows for you to create your own safe space, whether it be on your yoga mat, the car, the garden, or your office.
NB: Online therapy is NOT suited to someone in crisis, with self-harm/suicidal risk, or in need of risk management (e.g. inpatient admissions). If at any time Angelique feels that online therapy is not clinically adequate, she will refer you to a trusted colleague who can see you in-person if she can’t.

It takes courage to build a fulfilling life, not dictated by the need to always feel good, but grounded in personal values.

You might also be asked to complete some general screening measures to help Angelique gain further clarity on goals for therapy.
